Shiny goals are long-run scouting goals; the mistake is throwing away a stable run for one risky sighting.

Run checklist

1. Build a scouting shell first: movement, food, and a way to escape messy fights.
2. For Gotta catch them all, count sightings, not only kills.
3. For defeating a shiny animal, bring safe damage before chasing the target.
4. A June 12 Steam thread is a useful warning: challenge-mode shiny sightings still did not count toward a normal shiny achievement there, so do not test shiny progress inside unrelated Challenges.
5. Recent Steam discussion activity also shows players can hit long dry streaks, so treat shiny hunting as coverage and logging rather than a guaranteed-per-run target.
6. Use a simple log so repeated runs do not re-check the same low-value route.
