Use the missing entry before choosing a search route

Begin with the gap shown by your own Bestiary. A missing creature can require a different approach from a missing shiny kind or an unfinished kill objective. Organizing notes by biome is helpful for remembering where something appeared, but it does not establish that every creature is obtained by sweeping each terrain once.

The Version 1.2 discussion about a 54/55 Bestiary is a concrete example: the developer points to Spinnerets: Egg Sac. That lead is about producing a particular creature through an Evolution, not simply revisiting a biome. Use the version and the missing entry together before assuming that another ordinary scouting loop is the right next step.

An ally can also be a creature-discovery question

The 1.2 announcement introduces Darwee as the offspring hatched through Spinnerets: Egg Sac. It inherits Darwin’s Physical damage, Speed and Terrain Adaptation, has an individual cap of ten, and does not count toward the maximum number of Charmed allies. These properties explain why an accompanying creature should not automatically be categorized as an ordinary charmed enemy.

For collection notes, keep the creature name and the method of encountering it together. For combat or achievement decisions, also keep the relationship separate: a Darwee, an ally recruited through a friendly offer and a creature charmed by an enemy are not interchangeable states. A large group around Darwin does not reveal how each member was obtained.

Location and appearance are useful clues, not complete rules

Version 1.1 allowed Blobfish and Beewares to appear in Water and specifically noted that Blobfish remain poor swimmers. A biome sighting therefore does not establish a creature’s movement adaptation. Record the observed location without converting it into a claim that the creature can only occur there or always follows the same route.

Shiny appearance is another separate observation. Version 1.1 made the Bestiary’s shiny-view setting persist when switching between animals, and enabled the two named shiny-encounter achievements in Challenges. Browsing that display is not an encounter, and a repeated kind is not automatically a new kind for a variety goal.

A collection note that remains useful later

1. Record the creature’s displayed name and the particular goal being pursued. A vague note such as “another rare enemy” is hard to compare with a named Codex entry.
2. Add the mode, Pressure and version. They give context when later patches change the pool or when a Challenge changes achievement eligibility.
3. Record how the creature appeared: a world encounter, a named Evolution interaction or another identifiable event. Do not replace an unknown method with an assumed biome requirement.
4. Separate sighting, defeat and achievement progress. They can occur together, but they answer different questions when a counter remains unfinished.

FAQ

Is 55 a permanent total for the Bestiary?

The 54/55 discussion concerns Version 1.2. It is a useful dated clue, not a promise that every future version uses the same total. Compare the number displayed by your installed game before following an older completion checklist.

Can a category checklist replace the in-game Codex?

Use it as a personal memory aid. The game’s entries show the state of your own progress, while a guide explains possible routes. This website does not read your save or automatically certify which creatures you have discovered.

Does an Alpha label establish a new species entry?

Keep the displayed creature identity separate from a combat variant or status. The cited sources here do not provide a universal rule mapping every Alpha or shiny version to an additional Bestiary slot. Check the entry that changed after the encounter instead of adding a new species to your notes solely because its appearance or strength differed.

Where does the Egg Sac choice come from?

Version 1.2 makes Spinnerets available after the first Pressure 10 clear and gives it specialisations at level three, or level two with Expert. Egg Sac is one of those specialisations. A missing Darwee entry therefore calls for checking that unlock and branch, not assuming every world-generated creature can be found by revisiting a biome.
