Everything is Crab Dash Comparison: Sprint, Slide, Leap, Jet

Compare Sprint, Slide, Leap, Jet, and the basic Dash by steering, hazard crossing, unlock conditions, and build fit instead of treating one movement skill as universally best.

Practical use

Choose by the escape you need. abstractadvocat’s September 2 account favors Sprint for course correction and describes a Slide ending in a Krabken meteor landing zone. That is a specific positioning failure, not a universal ranking. Jet answers a different build question: version 1.2 says using it deploys every Secretion ability already acquired behind Darwin. The ability’s movement and what it leaves behind should both fit the next approach. abstractadvocat · Sprint and Slide account Official 1.2 notes

Sprint

Save the temporary speed for a crossing or escape you can identify in advance. Plan how to move during its cooldown rather than relying on the burst to be available at every dangerous approach.

Slide

Choose an exit line long enough to use the dash without ending beside another threat. Compare the landing position with a shorter movement option when the arena has tight corners.

Leap

Choose a landing area before jumping over a threat. Crossing the obstacle is only half the escape; leave enough open space after landing to avoid immediately meeting another attack.

Jet

Check the Tentacles and Secretion prerequisites before planning around Jet. Once available, aim the escape so the abilities deployed behind you are useful along the pursuit path.

Check the next escape in this order

  1. Identify the space after the movement, not just the threat being left. For the Slide example, the fatal problem was the destination: it carried the player into a meteor landing zone. Compare a committed line with a route requiring a late turn. If the hazard changes during movement, the steering choice matters even when both options cover enough distance to leave the original enemy. abstractadvocat · Sprint and Slide account

  2. Check Jet’s two separate gates. The first Pressure 12 completion unlocks it for the account; Tentacles plus a Secretion-type Evolution add it to the pool within a run. Having the pool combination is not a substitute for the first clear, and neither condition promises an immediate offer. If the card has not appeared, continue planning with the movement tool actually acquired instead of assuming a future Jet will repair the current escape. Official 1.2 notes

  3. If using Jet with Pedal Glands, consider the trail’s position relative to pursuers. The 1.2 description says Pedal Glands creates a slowing trail behind the player while nearby enemies chase; Jet deploys acquired Secretions behind Darwin. This makes the direction of the retreat relevant to where those effects are left. It does not establish that every enemy is slowed, that the trail deals poison without the appropriate branch, or that the dash itself prevents damage. Official 1.2 notes

  4. Spinnerets is the other Secretion named in the Jet announcement. Its web slows enemies and bosses crossing it, and owning Spinnerets prevents slowing by Clawdia’s cobwebs. Plan around the published slowing effect and the actual crossing path. Immunity to cobweb slowing is not immunity to Clawdia’s attacks, and the announcement does not extend it to every movement hazard in the arena. Official 1.2 notes

Read older movement advice against the dated changes

Version 1.1 fixed Whiskers and Sprint disrupting base speed while on cooldown. That bug is distinct from the active movement effect: an old account of slowdown during cooldown should not be copied as a current intended penalty. When comparing two attempts, separate the character’s ordinary movement from whether the temporary movement ability is ready. The note supplies no universal cooldown duration for this comparison. Official 1.1 notes

For Leap, compare crossing a body or obstacle with changing direction along the ground. In the August 30 Steam exchange, Tackles describes Bouncy’s double jump over terrain and bosses; Skyrocitor replies that one jump often already provided space and that the extra branch needed more choices to line up. These are differing player evaluations. Neither supplies a universal damage-immunity duration or proves that a safe crossing guarantees a safe landing. The same notes say Leap can now appear as a Common Evolution. That changes the availability comparison with older advice; it does not provide a new jump distance, landing-protection duration or guarantee that an offer will appear. Read the card actually offered before passing it over solely because a historical route expected a higher rarity. The appearance rule alone cannot prove a particular jump safely crosses every attack. FAQ

Is Sprint always better than Slide?

The September 2 preference comes from Minimalist and deep Extinction play. A clear committed line and a late course correction pose different problems. The report supplies no matched timings or success rates that rank every movement option. abstractadvocat · Sprint and Slide account

Can Jet be the plan for my first Pressure 12 clear?

The published first-clear reward is Jet’s unlock. The later Tentacles-and-Secretion pool requirement explains its availability in a run after that unlock; it does not make Jet a required tool for earning the original clear. Keep those milestones separate when planning progression. Official 1.2 notes

Does this comparison establish Scuttle’s distance or invulnerability?

No. The Sprint-versus-Slide discussion names Scuttle without describing those parameters. A different Steam complaint gives one historical cooldown observation, not a current value table or immunity test. Neither establishes those measurements. abstractadvocat · Sprint and Slide account Tackles and Skyrocitor · August 30 Leap discussion
