How do Anaesthetic and Vasodilators differ?
Version 1.1 added Anaesthetic, which prevents Leech attacks from making their target aggressive. Official 1.1 notes
The same update added Vasodilators, which multiplies Leech’s healing by the player’s Feeding Speed stat. Official 1.1 notes
Compare a change to the target’s reaction with a change to healing. Anaesthetic is not a promise that an already hostile encounter is safe; Vasodilators still requires an opportunity to land the attack.

What should I compare before staying close to drain Health?
The drain is useful only if you can take its short-range attack opportunities safely. Compare health recovered with the damage taken while staying close, rather than treating the attack as free healing.
Combining close recovery with a ranged attack
OddDreamsDigital’s Get Sniped archetype combines Projectile Tongue at range with Leech’s Vasodilators for close-range Health recovery. This is a developer-provided playstyle example, not a compulsory recipe. The two attacks solve different distance problems: a ranged pull or hit does not itself place a distant target inside the close recovery opportunity.
