Multiplayer and Co-op Status Guide

As of August 5, 2026, Everything is Crab is officially a single-player game, and a publisher representative says there are currently no plans for multiplayer; community local co-op mods are unofficial and should not be confused with built-in support.

Run checklist

  1. The official Steam feature list currently presents Everything is Crab as a single-player game; it does not list online co-op, local co-op, multiplayer, cross-play, or Remote Play Together.
  2. On August 4, 2026, a publisher representative answered the long-running Steam co-op thread and said there are currently no plans for multiplayer.
  3. Treat that wording as current status, not a permanent promise: future roadmap announcements could still change it, but no official multiplayer release or date is public now.
  4. A community mod listing advertises local two-player play on one shared screen. It is unofficial, requires extra software and two gamepads, and is not evidence of official online or local co-op support.
  5. Before trying any mod, back up saves, check game-version compatibility, read the public issue history, and expect patches to break it. Do not install repacks or executables from unrelated download pages.
  6. There is no official matchmaking, online co-op, split-screen mode, cross-play, or multiplayer progression to configure in the base game as of this check.

Separate a current feature from a future request

The Steam store feature list checked on October 30, 2026 identifies Everything is Crab as single-player. In the original co-op discussion, SecretModeEli’s August 4 reply says there were no current multiplayer plans. Read that as a dated statement of plans, not an irrevocable promise about every future update. A request from another player in the same thread is not a release announcement.

For a purchase or a session with friends, look for a specific supported mode and its requirements. A community tag, a suggestion for co-op or a screenshot with several animals does not establish online multiplayer, split-screen support or separate player-controlled Darwins. The store’s released feature list and the publisher’s statement answer different parts of that question.

Twitch participation is available, but is not co-op

Version 1.1 introduced Twitch integration. Viewers can vote on Evolutions, Specialisations and Points of Interest, including skip, upgrade and reroll choices where available. Suggest mode leaves the final choice with the streamer; Forced mode makes the vote decisive; Off disables polls for a selected event type. Poll timing and the amount of viewer control are configurable.

The extension can also show viewers as named enemies, display the selected Genetic and Pressure or Challenge, and show progress facts outside a run. These are audience interactions with the streamer’s game. They do not give each viewer a separately controlled character, turn the feature into local co-op or supply the online multiplayer mode requested in the discussion.

What to check before using a community modification

A community mod is a separate project with its own version, instructions and compatibility constraints. A listing that adds a local shared-screen mode should not be described as an official networked mode. Read the particular release’s supported game version and input requirements before assuming that an older demonstration describes the current installation.

If a problem appears only in a modified setup, keep that detail with the report. The base game’s single-player feature list cannot establish the behavior of the mod, and a mod author’s result cannot establish official support. The same distinction applies to saves and achievement behavior: neither should be promised without documentation for the exact setup.

FAQ

Can two viewers join as named enemies and control them?

The official 1.1 description says viewer names can appear over animals, Alphas and occasionally bosses. It does not describe viewers controlling those enemies. A name shown in the world is an audience feature, not a second controller slot.

Is Twitch integration available on Steam Deck?

The 1.1 announcement explicitly excludes Steam Deck for this feature. General game availability on the device does not remove that stated integration limitation. Check a later official change before assuming the restriction has been lifted.

Does the game reconnect to Twitch automatically?

The 1.1 instructions say it reconnects when relaunched after the account has been connected. This is Twitch account reconnection, not automatic joining of a multiplayer lobby or connecting a second player.
