Steam Deck Guide

Steam Deck questions should separate official compatibility signals from run-specific performance notes at higher pressure levels.

Answer first

Steam Deck questions should separate official compatibility signals from run-specific performance notes at higher pressure levels.

Run checklist

  1. Use public compatibility notes for the baseline, then verify pressure-level performance in real runs.
  2. Record game version, SteamOS/Proton runtime, resolution, control scheme, aspect ratio, and pressure level when testing.
  3. Version 1.2 fixes Steam Decks launching at an incorrect resolution.
  4. Version 1.2.1 fixes Steam Input issues for gamepads connected to Steam Deck, improves snap navigation, and prevents multiple connected controllers from switching the active input unexpectedly.
  5. A post-1.2 Steam thread still reports frequent Deck stutter across settings. On August 24, a publisher representative confirmed that the report and SteamOS 3.8.16 details were passed to QA; no public fix or workaround is confirmed yet.
  6. Treat stutter as a separate unresolved performance report, not as proof that the controller fixes failed, and avoid presenting a frame-rate cap or lower settings as a guaranteed fix.
  7. For 16:10 handhelds, current public discussion says black bars can be intentional so the visible map area stays consistent across devices; that is separate from the incorrect-launch-resolution bug.
  8. Keep controller, font-size, performance, stutter, battery, launch resolution, and aspect-ratio notes separate so players can decide what matters.
  9. Link Deck readers back to beginner and pressure routes, because portable sessions punish long risky attempts.
