Stuns nearby enemies and deals Physical damage over time while you remain still. Version 1.2 allows other attacks during the effect. Official 1.2 notes
In Version 1.2, stay still to maintain the stun and damage over time; moving ends the effect, which otherwise lasts up to five seconds. Official 1.2 notes Other attacks can be used without breaking it. Official 1.2 notes Choose a safe position before activating, and keep an escape ready for when the control ends.
The official Version 1.2 update removed the circle requirement. Official 1.2 notes Constriction stuns nearby targets and deals damage over time until you move or five seconds pass; other attacks no longer break the stun while you remain in place. Official 1.2 notes

The 1.1 progression changes place Constriction’s unlock at the first victory on Pressure 11. That update also states that using Constriction no longer triggers Spur. Official 1.1 notes
Treat the Constriction activation and a separate follow-up attack as different events when planning a Spur combination. The fix rules out counting the activation itself as the trigger. It does not provide a complete sequence or timing for every attack you might use during the stun.
Version 1.2 lowered bosses’ base Stun resistance but made them gain resistance during the fight as the player stuns them more. The game displays a pop-up when a boss’s Stun resistance increases. Official 1.2 notes
Watch that notice when arranging repeated control windows. Constriction’s stated five-second limit is not a promise that every boss will remain stopped for the same time after repeated stuns. Prepare a way out before the next activation instead of planning an indefinite stationary loop.
The 1.2 notes explicitly say Shellephant continues rolling while stunned, although the stun greatly reduces her speed. Official 1.2 notes
Keep the roll’s path clear even if its movement slows. If staying still to maintain Constriction would leave you in that path, use the escape you prepared and accept that moving ends the effect. The control choice should not override the immediate collision risk.
Choose a way to apply poison, then build around the openings needed to use it. Compare Spit with Poisonous Saliva, Stinger, and the conditional Pedal Glands route without treating every card as mandatory.
