Challenges

Everything is Crab Harmless Challenge Guide

Harmless removes attack slots. Plan food access and survival, and distinguish a challenge victory from Dove or Zen achievement attempts.

Challenge restrictions and player experience

  1. Harmless removes attack slots, so a route that requires equipping Trunk, Beak or another attack cannot be copied into this challenge. Use the challenge’s available choices when comparing builds.
  2. Plan a food route you can follow without hunting: check which foods your current diet permits and whether you can reach them without crossing a group of enemies. If food access fails, solve that before spending on optional upgrades.
  3. Keep an escape path when approaching food or a point of interest. If you use Burrow or another hiding tool, check its duration and terrain restrictions before relying on it during a boss fight.
  4. Dove and Zen are separate achievement goals. The cited achievement guide warns that Challenges disable most achievements; do not assume a Harmless victory awards either one. Its no-damage routes are described for Pressure runs. Vegan is a genetic, not another name for Dove.
  5. Absolut_garbage64 posted a Harmless result titled level 186. That is a player’s high-level report, not a verified current level cap or a complete sequence of evolution choices to reproduce.
  6. The related build pages offer food, movement and defence ideas. Their attack recommendations and normal Pressure assumptions do not automatically apply to Harmless; check each proposed choice against this challenge’s restrictions.

Read the clear record before borrowing its numbers

Absolut_garbage64’s result shows Harmless SUCCESS with 0 damage dealt but 67 damage taken. The health bar is 405/405 at the finish. Those values distinguish finishing at full health from receiving no damage during the run: this successful example is not a no-hit result. It should not be presented as proof of a Zen unlock or of an unseen healing method. Absolut_garbage64 · Harmless result

The same result records level 186, 17:49, 61 Mutagen and 78 points of interest. These describe one finish; they are not required targets for completing Harmless. The record does not establish the starting Genetic, a named evolution sequence or the game version. Consequently, its high level cannot tell you which opening to select or prove a current level cap. Use ally advice within the challenge’s limits

The Social Pack route offers one relevant comparison for a run without attack slots. Version 1.1 introduced occasional friendly enemies whose offer can be accepted with the interact button. The interval without attacking and the Social stat influence offers; an offer is not guaranteed merely because the run is Harmless. This is an option to evaluate when it appears, not a promised starting ally. Official 1.1 notes

The same patch says charmed allies no longer approach or steal the player’s food. That change is useful when comparing an ally plan with the food-access problem already described above. It does not establish that every ally delivers food, that all available food matches Darwin’s diet, or that taking an ally alone supplies a complete survival route. Official 1.1 notes

FAQ

Are all achievements disabled in Challenges?

No blanket ban follows from the community guide’s warning about most achievements. Official 1.1 notes explicitly allow Challenge progress toward Gotta catch them all, My Destiny, Win, Winner and Winnest, with earlier Challenge wins added retroactively to the win totals. Those named exceptions do not establish that Harmless grants Dove or Zen. Check the particular achievement rather than treating all of them alike. Must I reach level 186 without taking damage?

The cited result supplies neither requirement. It records one level-186 success with 67 damage taken, while the final full health bar describes only the finish. The author’s world-record or level-cap wording is not established by one image. Use it as a documented example of a clear, not as a required score or a proven maximum. Before the attempt

Solve food access and movement before planning damage: Harmless removes attack slots. A successful run can still include damage received, as the level-186 result demonstrates. Use that example to understand what it records, not to demand its level or invent its starting build. Friendly encounters may help, but their occurrence is not guaranteed. Decisions through the attempt

  1. Start by checking whether your food plan depends on a kill you cannot reliably make without attack slots. The existing route advice prioritizes food access and escape for that reason. An evolution useful in an ordinary attacking run is not automatically useful here merely because its name appears in a build. Identify the decision it improves: reaching food, surviving the approach or leaving danger.

  2. When a friendly enemy offers to join, distinguish accepting the opportunity from depending on it before it exists. Version 1.1 describes the interact-button acceptance and says Social and time without attacking affect offers. It does not schedule an ally for the opening. Continue the food-and-escape plan while evaluating the offer rather than waiting for a guaranteed companion that the rule never promises. Official 1.1 notes

  3. If an ally joins, reassess the actual route to food. The official change that stops charmed allies approaching or stealing your food removes a particular conflict; it does not certify every nearby food source as edible for Darwin. Keep dietary access separate from ally ownership, especially when a suggested route comes from a different starting Genetic or a different challenge. An available companion does not remove a restriction on what Darwin can eat. Official 1.1 notes

  4. At the end, read damage dealt, damage taken and final health as separate fields. Absolut_garbage64’s 0 dealt, 67 taken and 405/405 finish show why those checks matter. For an achievement goal, compare the relevant condition and named Challenge exceptions rather than treating a successful Harmless screen as automatic proof of every pacifist or no-damage achievement. Mistakes and failure boundaries

Do not use an attack-dependent recommendation without reconciling the missing slots. Equally, do not claim that avoiding attacks means avoiding all incoming damage. These are different restrictions, and the cited successful result explicitly records damage taken. If a run fails through hunger, revise food access; if it fails while crossing an enemy, revise that movement decision. The result image does not identify an unseen healing loop that solves both. Absolut_garbage64 · Harmless result

Do not read the official Challenge-achievement exceptions as permission for every achievement. The 1.1 list names collection and win progress, while the page’s Dove and Zen comparisons concern different conditions. Keep the named exception attached to its own achievement. A full final health bar cannot erase earlier damage, and reaching an unusual level cannot establish a maximum from one run. Official 1.1 notes Absolut_garbage64 · Harmless result

FAQ

Does a friendly ally make food access automatic?

No. Official 1.1 describes how friendship offers can occur and says charmed allies no longer approach or steal your food. It does not promise an opening ally or state that every food source becomes suitable for Darwin’s diet. Check the actual offer and route. Official 1.1 notes

Update history

: Clarified that the level-186 Harmless result includes 67 damage taken without turning that result into a no-hit record. Added food-access decisions, conditional ally planning and a third focused question.
